On a music making mission

For Pre-Schoolers and the people who love them

Energetic and loud or shy and reserved (and that’s just the parents!) children, mums, dads and even grandparents sing, dance and play at The Salvation Army.

Many Salvation Army Corps (churches) are running successful pre-school activities. Some have a toy library or pre-school gym, others fairly unstructured playgroups, but more and more are offering pre-school music groups to their community. Some groups are run as "Music and Movement", others "Mainly Music." The name depends on the programme material used.

Sessions typically include structured activities as well as free play and refreshments—all in a secure, childsafe environment. Children enjoy music, rhyme, rhythm and creative dance, learning social skills as well as developing coordination, language skills and musical appreciation. Songs about values such as sharing, love and helpfulness become part of children’s home routine too.

Salvation Army pre-school music groups are a great place to meet other parents. Friendships are made and strengthened each week. Above all else, such groups are great fun -- for the Army's lively leaders who dance and sing to lead each session and for the children and caregivers who energetically join in the musical merrymaking.

Enquire at your local Salvation Army -- perhaps there's a pre-school music group at The Salvation Army near you!
