Music & Creative Arts in Worship

The Creative Ministries Department (CMD) exists largely to resource individuals and groups within The Salvation Army church that use Music and Creative Arts in worship.

This includes music, drama, dance, art, creative writing, video production, and other forms of artistic expression.

National Music Ministries

SpiritSong SpiritSong:
Formed in 1995 as the National Songsters, this choral group was rebranded in 2005 as SpiritSong.  As part of this rebranding SpiritSong re-evaluated their purpose, moving the emphasis from performance and entertainment towards a focused ministry for the non-believer.
NDYB National Development Youth Band:
The Salvation Army National Development Youth Band (NDYB) was first formed in 1996, its main purpose being to expose young musicians to a fun, but focussed, musical environment while developing their technical skill as brass players.
NYB National Youth Band:
Since its formation in 1989, The Salvation Army National Youth Band (NYB) has grown and developed into a fine example of a modern day brass band. In keeping with the nature of Salvation Army musical groups, the NYB is concerned with more than just musical excellence.

Resources

This resourcing includes musical training for groups and leaders, books of drama scripts, video editing facilities, instrumental and vocal music, and much more. The department also presents training workshops on areas such as drama, timbrel, creative dance and music as well as the important subject of understanding what the whole worship process is all about. Whatever the needs are at local church level, the CMD will do everything possible to respond and assist.

Drama Works

The ‘Drama Works’ series were all published in the last few years. All are by Salvationist authors. Volumes come in a spiral bound format for ease of photocopying (for which permission is granted); all include both a subject index and plot summaries; clear production and stage instructions are given; and all offer something appropriate for groups or individuals of varying abilities. Further volumes will be released over the next year.

These and other drama resources can be purchased through The Salvation Army Bookshop

Advice / Guidance / Support are here!

The Director of Creative Ministries, Matthew Pethybridge, and his team of assistants (each with special expertise in upbeat arrangements, compositions, recording backing tracks, dance, drama, visual arts) are committed to supporting Salvation Army Corps (Church) members to make their ministry more powerful, vibrant, fun and effective.
