Street Day Appeals
Street Day Appeals are quite different to the national appeal held during Red Shield Appeal Week.
The Red Shield Appeal is organised and run across the entire country in a nationally coordinated effort. Recently this has been a combination of householder envelope appeal and static collectors at strategic 'high foot traffic' retail locations (not generally on the streets). Dates for the national appeal are coordinated and published on a national appeals calendar arranged through the Fundraising Institute of New Zealand (FINZ). All money donated to the national appeal is then distributed to Salvation Army centres and nationally managed programmes based on the priorities determined by the Army's territorial headquarters.
Street Day Appeals are locally run. The frequency and the manner in which they are run is determined by local council bylaws. All money donated to the Army on a Street Day is used within the 'local' expression of The Salvation Army.
When you see a Salvation Army collector in the street - please give generously!
