About the Department/Operation/Programme

Flaxmere/Pāharakeke Salvation Army is a growing corps/church located in a great community where you will get to work in a team to see people reach their full potential. We have a distinct bicultural heritage and whanau/community focus. Our community ministry and transitional housing programmes are strongly connected within the wider work of our centre.

About the role

This role will initially be focussed on consolidating our new transitional housing programme. You will be working alongside 5 families to provide support, and set goals as they transition to longer term accommodation. You will also have the opportunity to grow with the role, as we develop a ‘wrap around’ model of practice as a pilot centre within The Salvation Army.

Specific tasks include

  • Management of Transitional Housing and Case Work
  • Training in and development of ‘wrap around’ model of practice in our centre
  • Research and development of further community ministry opportunities for our centre

Person Specification

This is an ideal opportunity for the right person to take their prior training and experience to the next level as they develop their leadership and management potential within a highly supportive environment.

  • Ideally the applicant will have a Social Work or other relevant qualification
  • Previous community/social work experience is essential, preferably in a not-for-profit setting.
  • Clearly evidenced holistic model of practice (ie whare tapawha)
  • Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its implications for practice
  • Cultural competence particularly within Māori and Pasifika communities
  • Leadership potential and a commitment to ongoing professional development
