Christianity 101

We believe that there is a God who has created all things and who gives his creation meaning. Even more exciting, this is a God who we can know!

Knowing God is not just ‘knowing about’ God, it is knowing God in the context of being in relationship with him.

God chooses to make himself known to us in the person of Jesus, his son.

John 17:3 (CEV) says, ‘Eternal life is to know you, the only true God, and to know Jesus Christ, the one you sent.’

Knowing God brings a new awareness of ourselves. We realise that God is holy and that he wants us to be holy too. We become aware that we are God’s creation and that he loves us without measure. We, and all humanity, have dignity because we are made in the image of God.

Knowing God helps us understand our world and respond to its challenges. We understand that God has a purpose for his creation and that we are to serve him as his agents in the world. 2 Corinthians 5:20 describes our role as God’s ambassadors like this: ‘We were sent to speak for Christ, and God is begging you to listen to our message. We speak for Christ and sincerely ask you to make peace with God.’

The greatest wisdom we can have is to know God. And that’s at the heart of this section - to know God and his timeless foundational truths for life.
