Since its foundation in 1865, The Salvation Army has seen and affirmed the value of women. These days, numbers of denominations are celebrating the ordination of women. In The Salvation Army women were commissioned as Salvation Army Officers, in their own right, from its very beginning.
Today women continue to be given opportunities to be empowered for ministry, both as officers and in other leadership roles.
Throughout New Zealand, Fiji and Tonga, The Salvation Army is constantly seeking to be relevant to the ever-changing needs of women. In Salvation Army corps (churches) and social centres a wide variety of programmes and service opportunities are provided.
'The Lord announces victory and throngs of women shout the happy news.' Psalm 68:11 (New Living Translation)
