Auckland

The Auckland Oasis Centre was established in July 1997 to address increasing concerns about gambling problems in society, especially with the opening of the largest NZ casino in Auckland in 1996 and the increasing number of gaming machines (pokies) located in pubs and clubs.

This centre is staffed by six qualified therapists, practising from a wide range of therapeutic approaches that acknowledge the uniqueness of individual clients in applying effective intervention in the problem gambling field. Clients are also offered a choice of gender and culturally appropriate service from Pakeha, Maori and Asian therapists.

The core programmes offered are:

  • face-to-face counselling for gamblers and affected others
  • couple’s counselling and family therapy
  • mixed gender gamblers support groups
