The Salvation Army Employment Plus has long been recognised as the largest community-based employment training provider in New Zealand.

Helping people to employment has been a key thread running through The Salvation Army’s mission since it established its first labour bureau in Christchurch back in 1891.

The New Zealand government later incorporated many of the ideas pioneered by the Salvation Army in its own labour bureau.

  • the modern approach of The Salvation Army’s employment training – Employment Plus – took place with the development of a commercial sewing course sponsored by local business in Tauranga 1978.
  • we’ve up-skilled over 600,000 New Zealander’s over the last 30 years.
  • at any one time we’re helping around 1,000 people in education and training needs nationwide.
