Thought Matters Conference 2016 - Rediscovering Salvation: New creation and abdundant gospel

Thought Matters is the annual conference organised and facilitated by The Salvation Army Tri-Territorial Theological Forum (TTTF). The TTTF exists to facilitate theological discussion which informs ministry practice. It is composed of representatives from each of the contributing territories—Australia Eastern, Australia Southern and New Zealand, Fiji and Tonga. This year's cpmnference takes place in Melbourne.

Conference Theme and call for papers

What is salvation? The biblical concepts of new creation and abundance raise potential implications for our understanding of salvation. Have we individualised, spiritualised, privatised and institutionalised notions of
salvation? What does a fuller concept of salvation actually look like? The TTTF is calling for papers that will address a range of issues relevant to this conference theme. Papers arising from a biblical studies, theological, historical, practical theology or inter-disciplinary perspective are all welcomed.

Possible topics may include, but are not limited to:

  • Is salvation just for the individual? What does salvation look like for communities and social structures?
  • Salvation now and salvation as future hope
  • Ecological and global implications of salvation
  • What does salvation look like in the lives of individuals in 2016 and how is it achieved?
  • Are there people for whom traditional understandings of salvation are unhelpful?
  • How do we communicate meaningfully about the benefits of salvation?
  •  Biblical concepts of new creation and abundance (or other related concepts)
  • The meaning/action of the Christ event
  • Role of atonement theories in contemporary understandings of salvation.
