Delegates heard from a top quality line-up of speakers, including Minister for Immigration Michael Woodhouse, Human Rights Commissioner David Rutherford, UN legal advisor Dr Anne T Gallagher, renowned activist Matt Friedman, US Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Marie Damour, and a range of academic, NGO and government representatives. Delegates had the chance to network with other practitioners working in immigration, law, social justice and community groups.

The conference was a very practical time, and delegates have contributed to seeing people trafficking and labour exploitation be prevented in New Zealand, within a Pacific context.

Sallies Gotta Lotta Talent logoSallies Gotta Lotta Talent:

Has The Salvation Army got talent? You better believe it! This year’s congress will feature outstanding performance acts identified in a territory-wide talent quest. We’ll be looking for a wide variety of performance acts that include some sort of faith element.

Divisional and regional heats will be held in June this year. The top two acts from each division will advance to the semi-finals, held on Saturday afternoon of congress. Our judges will select three acts to perform in the evening’s public celebration meeting. Some great prizes are on offer for the winning acts!

Other Congress highlights to look forward to...

Saved to Serve: Hop on a bus on Saturday morning and join hundreds of Salvationists as we head off around Auckland to serve in practical ways. We’re praying there will be plenty of opportunities to strike up conversations about faith and Jesus, and even to pray with people. Please pray for fine weather, zealous hearts and a willingness to impact our community for Christ as we serve in practical ways.

Outreach Concert: For those not getting involved in Saved to Serve, plan to head along to the outreach concert in Manukau. This will feature our national musical groups, SpiritSong and the National Youth Band, along with others.

Please plan to be part of this Congress 2013—and encourage others to attend.
