Where are your threads of hope?

30 May | 2015

I was so inspired to read this edition’s story of Tanya, who emerged from a difficult background, compounded by debt, and turned things around with help from The Salvation Army.

Light still shines in darkness

20 May | 2015

The photo on our cover is of Iraqi Christian Heleen Dawood from December 2014. Heleen is posing in a tented refugee centre in the grounds of Mazar Mar Eillia Catholic Church, which became home to hundreds of Iraqi Christians forced to flee their homes as the Islamic State (ISIL) advanced in Erbil, Iraq.

Best wishes to the Holst Family

2 May | 2015

Our War Cry team was saddened to read that Dame Alison Holst has been diagnosed with dementia and is hanging up her apron. War Cry has been sharing Alison and her son Simon’s wonderful recipes with our readers for a number of years; recipes provided at no charge to signal the couple’s support for the Army’s work.

30 Mar | 2015

All of us have times when it seems no matter what we do, bad stuff keeps happening. And the more that happens, the more we can feel worn down. Hopefully, some of the articles in this edition will point you in the right direction to strengthen your resilience.

Speaking Christian

7 Mar | 2015

I really enjoyed the challenge Vanessa Singh brings to readers in addressing the topic of speaking (or not speaking!) Christianese. It’s a good reminder that a lot of the lingo we use in church circles doesn’t make much sense to those who haven’t grown up with it.

Bring your children to Jesus

23 Feb | 2015

Jesus had great compassion for parents. One time, a father whose son was being attacked by an evil force came to Jesus, desperate for help. ‘Bring your son to me,’ was Jesus’ simple response.

Our harmful drinking culture

10 Feb | 2015

As the NZ Drug Foundation reports, the facts about drinking in New Zealand don’t make for easy reading.
