Christmas should be a time for great joy. A time to celebrate and share precious moments with our loved ones.
But at The Salvation Army, we know that for many New Zealanders even sharing a modest Christmas meal can be out of reach.
With living costs continuing to rise and high financial pressure on families over the holiday period, demand for our services always climbs steeply at Christmas. It’s a stressful time, especially for children like Sam and his family.
Sam is 7 years old. He lives in South Auckland. Recently Sam’s dad died, which came as a terrible shock to the whole family. To make matters worse, Sam’s mum started suffering from depression and had to leave her job.
The family soon had trouble making ends meet. With rent and other costs increasing, there was little money left over for food. Sometimes Sam would go without breakfast, which made it difficult for him to concentrate at school.
If you think children shouldn’t have to suffer like this in New Zealand, you’re right.
Every day, we work to bring hope to children in desperate need, and their families. But it’s a big job, and we simply can’t do it on our own.
That’s why we ask you to help by donating to our Christmas Appeal. Your donation will provide emergency help with food and clothing for Sam and his family, as well as supportive services such as life skills programmes and budgeting advice for Sam’s mum.
With your help, children and their families can look forward to a healthier, happier Christmas and a step toward a brighter future.
As you prepare to share precious time with your family and friends this Christmas, take a moment to remember ours.
Please donate today - and give a little joy to those New Zealanders who need it most.
