The Salvation Army Wellington Bridge programme for alcohol and drug treatment is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified addictions counsellor for our residential programme based in Newtown, Wellington.

The Salvation Army Wellington Bridge Centre exists to provide safe, integrated, high quality treatment and support services to people whose lives have been affected by alcohol or substance use. Our services are evidenced based best practise and are known for being people-centred, caring, transformative and responsive.

The ideal candidate will have the following:

Tertiary Alcohol and Drug qualifications or qualifications in a closely related field such as social work, psychology, nursing.

  • DAPAANZ professional registration, an equivalent health registration or working towards obtaining
  • Experience in group facilitation and case management in the Alcohol and Drug field
  • Experience in carrying clinical workloads
  • An awareness of the requirements of the treaty of Waitangi and be willing to work from a bi-cultural perspective
  • Ability to work with people from other diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • Ability to work within a team environment and also independently when required
  • An empathy with the overall Mission of the Salvation Army - Caring for People, Transforming Lives, and Reforming Society

Although this is a full-time permanent position of 40 hours per week, we would also consider applications from those interested in part time hours.  

To be appointed in this role, applicants must have NZ residency or a valid NZ Work Permit and give permission for the completion of a satisfactory Police Check.
