Assistant Operations Manager (Health related)

We are looking to employ a full time Registered Heath professional into this brand-new role, who is interested in working with homeless men and families, in need of Emergency Housing. We have expanded in the last 2 years and this new role is part of changes to respond to the complexity of those who we are supporting.

This is role is 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with hours of 9.00 am - 5.30 pm (negotiable).

You will work alongside our experienced Director and Operations Manager, in the day-to-day management of the sites. You will help provide clinical leadership and key decision making to our Social Workers, Nurses, Counsellor and Support Workers during the week. You will be part of our Senior Leadership team. 

The Salvation Army is contracted to Ministry of Social Development (MSD) to provide short term emergency housing for up to 3 months within one of our hostels and a further 3 months once they move into their own home. The Salvation Army hostel has celebrated 120 years of homeless services as part of its Christian mission to the Canterbury community.

You will be based from our Addington hostels site. You will be focused upon the mental health/addiction and social support needs of up to 88 men and up to 16 families.

You will help lead the 2 teams to ensure that our practice process and day to day support and care are meeting the needs of those using our services. No day will ever be the same!

Our successful applicant for this role must have a Degree and Registration in either Nursing, Social Work, AOD Counselling or Allied health and a current APC.

You will have a Post Graduate Certificate in Mental health/AOD (or similar). If you haven’t completed this, we would be willing to help you towards this within your first 2 years. 

You will have at least 5 years’ experience in either the areas of Mental Health or AOD and/or Corrections work areas. You need to be confident in your decision making as this area of work can be dynamic and require quick responses. This role would suit someone ready to step up from a Clinical casework role looking for more responsibility.

We support all our Case Workers and Clinical staff to undertake approved Post Grad study to at least a Certificate level, have monthly clinical supervision and maintain registration as part of the employment package.

It is vital that you:

  1. Are very supportive of the Christian mission of the Salvation Army and the work of the Emergency Housing Accommodation services;
  2. Have a full, clean NZ driver’s licence;
  3. Be self-directed and independent, able to engage with our diverse clients, undertake a professional social service, interacting with a wide range of people, families, cultures and the wider community;
  4. Must have the qualifications and experience outlined above;
  5. Have NZ registration and previous leadership experience in a similar setting.

This is a 40-hour permanent role. There will be rostered on-call every 6 weeks.
