1 FTE role - Families in Community
1 FTE role - Men’s Hostel

These are 40-hour permanent positions.

We are looking to employ 2 full time Case Workers who are interested in working either with our Community Housing team focused on families, or within our Men’s Emergency Hostel, based in Addington.

The Salvation Army is contracted to Ministry of Social Development (MSD) to provide short term emergency housing for up to 3 months within one of our community homes and a further 3 months once they move into their own home. The Salvation Army hostel has recently celebrated 120 years of homeless service to the Canterbury community.

For the Community Housing Families role, you will travel from our Addington base, to the families around the city. You will be a Caseworker for a number of households and have both a “hands on” practical role and clinical responsibilities as part of this position.

The role is Monday to Friday 9.30 am – 6 pm (negotiable).

For the Men’s Hostel role, you will be based at the Addington site which is contracted for 88 beds. This role works with men who are needing support to return to community independence, who often have had previous Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) and/or Corrections history in their life journey.

This role is Monday to Friday Week 1: 9 am - 5.30 pm, Week 2: 12.30 pm – 9 pm.

Our successful applicant for either role will have at least a Level 6 NZQA diploma, or degree level qualification in Mental Health or AOD or Social Work or in other Allied Health areas. Preference will be to those applicants who qualify for Health or Social Work registration or similar.

At least 3 years’ employment experience in the areas of Mental Health or Alcohol and Drug, or working with Families in crisis, or Corrections, will be required.

We support all Case workers to undertake approved further post grad Certificate study especially in the areas of Mental health/AOD, have monthly clinical supervision and maintain registration as part of the employment package.

It is vital that you:

  2. Have a full clean NZ drivers’ licence;
  3. Are self-directed and able to engage with our diverse clients, can undertake a professional service, can interact with a wide range of people, families and cultures across the wider community;
