Who doesn’t like Nelson! Nelson is the jewel of the upper South Island boasting many desirable attributes; the climate – up there with the highest sunshine hours in NZ, the beaches – stunning golden sand and warm water, the national parks – three at your door step, not to mention a thriving economy and a handy provincial rugby team – ‘Go the Mako’.

The Salvation Army Nelson Tasman Bays isn’t bad either, but it is in need of a dedicated passionate Children’s Ministry Leader (CML) to continue to oversee and develop the established children’s ministry in the Nelson Tasman Bays region.

About the role

The purpose of the position is to provide leadership to the Children’s Ministry Team and to oversee the effective functioning and development of ministry and mission to children (0 - 12 years) across the Nelson/Tasman region. The CML will work as part of the Corps ministry team to ensure that a vibrant child-friendly expression of ministry and mission is occurring in every facet of Corps life, meeting the needs of our children and implementing safety policy in order to protect our children.

Areas of key focus include:

  • Outreach – continuing with, and discovering new ways to link with those currently outside of the church;
  • Worship – providing meaningful worship experiences for children within the Corps;
  • Discipleship – providing support for our young people to journey along the path of faith by providing programme, encouragement, whanau support, and mission experience.

This is a permanent position, 35 hours per week.

This is a ministry position within The Salvation Army and therefore is only open to applicants that are active soldiers.

Person Specification

  • Leadership experience;
  • Must have a passion for children;
  • Proven track record in ministry to children;
  • An ability to build rapport with children and their families from diverse backgrounds and complex needs is essential.
