Community Loan Worker

The Good Shop Mobile Shopping Service, Porirua Salvation Army

37.5 hours per week

Are you a customer service superstar with good financial skills? Then come and be part of THE GOOD SHOP - the Mobile Shop you can Trust.

The Salvation Army is a worldwide evangelical Christian church that works to care for people, transform lives, and reform society. With strong social justice values in mind, one of the programmes we’ve developed is The Good Shop, an ethical service providing home shopping and no-interest loans to people on limited incomes.

Based at our Cannons Creek office alongside the Customer Care Worker; you will travel daily around the Porirua area in The Good Shop vehicle. Your functions will include:

  • Facilitating financial discussions with clients
  • Conducting loan assessments and providing lending services; all with exceptional customer
  • Facilitating the purchase and delivery of goods through the interest-free programme
  • Promotion of the initiative within the local community
  • Support to the Customer Care Worker as required (a truly collaborative work environment)

As well as being financially savvy and able to give good information on money management, you’ll ideally understand lending processes.

Because our clients come from a diverse range of backgrounds and have complex needs, you’ll need to be comfortable building rapport with a wide variety of people. You’ll be an empathetic sort of person, with a good appreciation for their needs and, of course, a strong desire to improve their social and economic wellbeing.

To succeed in this role you will thrive on the challenge of establishing and advancing this new social innovation. You will enjoy adapting to the needs of an emerging programme, and working to help in succeed. 

Applicants for this role must have a full driver’s licence and clean criminal record. You’ll be able to identify and work within The Salvation Army’s mission and values.
