The Family Store supports this mission by raising funds through the sale of donated goods. Our Family Store sells a range of quality donated items and offers a free pick up of donated goods along with delivery of sold items. 

About the role

The Senior Retail Assistant will provide vital support and assistance as part of the Family Store Team. This position assists the Family Store Manager to ensure the performance of the Family Store by supervising the store on Saturdays, overseeing the retail areas of the shop, and keeping our Social Media presence updated with great deals! 

They will operate applying sound judgement and supporting operational excellence. The role is 30 hours per week, Wednesday through to Saturday from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring donations are processed onto the shop floor;
  • Community and customer service;
  • Supervising the store on Saturdays (and when the manager is away);
  • Ensuring compliance with policies, particularly health and safety;
  • Cash-handling and till operating;
  • Keeping social media up-to-date with our specials!

Person Specification

Our ideal applicant must:

  • Have the ability to problem-solve;
  • Have a good knowledge of second-hand merchandising;
  • Have a high level of health and fitness;
  • Be capable of lifting – this is a regular daily part of the role;
  • Have excellent customer service with a broad range of people, ideally with some retail experience;
  • Be a clear communicator, including being understood clearly on the phone and the ability to record written information accurately and clearly;
  • Be self-managing and able to keep to task and re-prioritise as required;
  • Be able to relate to people from a diverse range of backgrounds;
  • Be familiar with following health and safety procedures;
  • Be resilient, positive and people-oriented team player;
  • Be adaptable and able to work under pressure;
  • Be sympathetic to the aims and mission of The Salvation Army.
