Family Store Supervisor

Woolston, Christchurch

The Salvation Army Woolston operates two Family Stores in Christchurch East.  These stores have been operating for over a decade. Their purpose is to provide quality second-hand goods to the community, help raise funds for the community programmes run by The Salvation Army and to provide a link to the community for these programmes.

An exciting new opportunity has arisen within our two stores by the creation of a new supervisor’s position.  We are looking for a vibrant and energetic person to fill this role five days a week, Tuesday – Saturday.

This permanent position is for 37 hours per week.

The successful applicant will have:

  • Proven retail experience
  • Appreciation for second-hand goods (i.e. clothing, furniture, household items)
  • Great customer service skills
  • Ability to relate to people from a diverse range of backgrounds, sensitive to ethnic, cultural and issues
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Shows good time management skills and can work unsupervised
  • Good level of fitness as some heavy lifting involved
  • Positive and resilient attitude
  • Honesty and reliability
  • Be a team player
  • Be an active, friendly, “hands-on”, person.
  • Have well-developed leadership and staff management skills; able to effectively lead and manage a team of employees and volunteers.
  • Use initiative, looking for new opportunities to improve the performance of each store.
  • A willingness, commitment and passion to work in accordance with The Salvation Army Mission and Values.
  • Have a full NZ drivers licence.

The role involves:

  • Supporting the two existing Store Managers to ensure the stores operate smoothly and efficiently
  • Supervising the Woolston store on Saturdays
  • Sorting and pricing second-hand stock
  • Serving customers with a smile and helpful demeanour
  • Lifting and moving heavy furniture around the store
