Family Store Team Leader

Kilbirnie Family Store, Wellington

We are looking for a passionate Family Store Team Leader to join our busy team at the Kilbirnie Family Store.

This store is a great size, large enough to have plenty of furniture and larger items, as well as clothing and household items of every description. We are located in a hub of charity stores, lots of competition and the perfect opportunity to be top of mind for the discerning shoppers of Kilbirnie.

Purpose of the Position:

The Family Store Team Leader will provide vital support and assistance as part of the Senior Leadership Team implementing strategic direction and operations, leading the performance of the Family Store to meet agreed financial and operational targets. As such, the Team Leader will work closely in a supportive role alongside the Family Store Area Manager assisting with all aspects of their work. They will operate applying sound judgement and supporting operational excellence.

The Family Store Team Leader will assist in the management of day-to-day business tasks and functions.  They will also ensure sales and cash transactions are processed in accordance with policy, ensure a high level of customer service and service delivery, ensure quality product is provided to customers and assist to develop, maintain and promote positive working relationships.

The successful applicant will:

  • Have a relational people approach with strong operational skills to work well in a team to achieve goals, with the energy, passion and competencies to turn vision into reality;
  • Have the ability to relate to people from a diverse range of backgrounds, sensitive to ethnic and cultural issues and can build long term positive working relationships;
  • Be well organised with the ability to prioritise multiple tasks and especially those that will create maximum financial return;
  • Be flexible with duties, as these will be many and varied;
  • Be super fit and healthy, as heavy lifting is involved;
  • Have a full drivers’ licence and the confidence to drive our truck;
  • Have the ability to remain calm and objective under pressure;
  • Have a business focused attitude, with a good knowledge of sales/retail;
  • Be goal and target focused and able to evaluate and analysis numerical data to inform decisions;
  • Have the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing;
  • Have an ethical approach to working in a respectful, honest and transparent way to build trust across the family stores, upholding the values of The Salvation Army;
  • Be creative, with an eye for presentation and layout;
  • Have the willingness to contribute to the mission of The Salvation Army.

This is a permanent position for 37.5 hours per week. Days and hours are Tuesday – Friday 8:45 am-5:00 pm and Saturday, 9:30 am – 4:30 pm with 30-minute unpaid break.
