The Salvation Army Te Ope Whakaora is a world-wide evangelical Christian church and human service provider that assists over 120,000 New Zealanders every year providing a wide range of community services, such as food banks, family stores, early childhood centres and addiction treatment centres.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and highly competent Accountant to support The Salvation Army’s Central Division, which comprises 20+ financial entities (Corps (churches) and the full range of community services) from Wellington to Whanganui and across to the Wairarapa.  

Reporting to the Divisional Business Administrator, the Divisional Financial Accountant is responsible for managing the financial operation of the Central Divisional Headquarters, as well as oversight of the accounting and financial operation of each of the Corps and social centres within the division.

Providing support to the centres is a key part of the role, and thus, excellent communication and relationship building skills is a must. The successful candidate will be mature, confident and a strong team player. This is a fantastic opportunity to stamp your own mark on this well-established role, with plenty of scope to further grow and develop your skillset.

This is a busy and varied role, and you will have the opportunity to work with a fantastic group of passionate, talented and highly motivated people. 

Person Profile

  • Sound knowledge of accounting principles and practices;
  • A tertiary qualification in accounting, with 3+ years’ experience in a similar role;
  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills;
  • Self-motivated and uses initiative;
  • A positive, can-do attitude;
  • The ability to work methodically and systematically with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Analytical and proactively looks to improve operational systems and service delivery;
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to display sound judgement;
  • Strong commitment to delivering excellent customer service to all internal and external stakeholders;
  • A commitment to the mission and values of The Salvation Army;
  • A full drivers’ licence and ideally your own vehicle (you will be reimbursed for any work related travel, which will be circa once or twice a month).
