About Hamilton City Salvation Army

The Hamilton City Salvation Army is an integrated, mission focused, Christian faith-based organisation.  Our Community Ministries provide professional social services including Social Work, Positive Lifestyle Programme, Child Therapy, Senior Services, Supervised Child Contact, Community Finance, Parenting Programmes and Welfare Support, as well as spiritual support.  We cater to the inner city and wider community of Hamilton.

About the role

The purpose for this position is to provide quality Financial Mentoring services on behalf of The Salvation Army to clients, including education, guidance and support in financial matters which develops the clients’ money and financial skills, and assists in meeting agreed goals and outcomes.

This is a full-time permanent position for 37.5hrs per week, Monday to Friday.

Ideal candidates will:

  • Be able to identify with and work within the mission and values of The Salvation Army;
  • Be a team player;
  • Have previous budgeting or financial experience;
  • Have an ability to build rapport and empathise with clients from diverse backgrounds and complex needs (essential);
  • Have highly developed communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Have a strong customer service focus;
  • Have an appreciation towards the needs of people on low income; and have a strong desire to improve the social and economic wellbeing of these people;
  • Have good computer skills;
  • Hold a current full driver’s license;
  • Be eligible to work in NZ;
  • Have a good sense of humour;
  • Be reliable.

This role reports to the Clinical Practice Manager.
