The Salvation Army Oasis is a well-established specialist service that has worked towards reducing gambling harm - petipeti whakararu in Aotearoa New Zealand for over 25 years. Our free and confidential service is delivered by a team of passionate and qualified health professionals who seek to support and empower individuals, whanau and communities to develop healthy and fulfilling lifestyles, free from gambling harm.  

A vacancy to cover parental leave has become available within The Salvation Army Christchurch for a full-time (40 hours per week) fixed term gambling caseworker, starting 30th September 2019 to 29 May 2020.  This role will be based at The Salvation Army Oasis Christchurch centre. The applicant will preferably have experience working in the Gambling Harm/Addiction clinical context using both one to one and group interventions. It would be an advantage to have experience in working with affected whanau, couples, coexisting issues, diverse cultures including Maori, Pacific, Asian and an ability to engage with larger audiences.

Person Specification

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who possesses the following qualifications, qualities and skills:

  • A relevant Applied Degree Level Qualification and experience in the field of Gambling Harm/Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Addiction/Mental Health;
  • A registered practitioner with DAPAANZ or similar professional body e.g. NZAC, NZPS, NZPsS, ANZASW;
  • The capacity to build and maintain therapeutic relationships and uphold professional boundaries;
  • Comprehensive assessment skills and intervention planning & review skills (with a wide range of interventions);
  • Can maintain a case file management system with adherence to Professional Code of Ethics;
  • Computer literate with knowledge of clinical database systems;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and organisational skills;
  • Reliable and confident to work autonomously and in a team;
  • Can liaise with people at all levels both internally and externally;
  • Experience in service delivery including community liaison and networking;
  • A current full and clean drivers’ licence.
