About Linwood Corps & Community Ministries

The Linwood Corps is looking for a Social Worker to enhance our ministry in our community. We want to help people make lasting change in their lives and the lives of their whanau. Our aim is to provide a place where we help people of all cultures take the next step in improving their lives, where the spiritual, physical, emotional and family needs are addressed.

About the role

The purpose of the position is to provide the capacity to deliver social service assistance via the Community Ministry wing of the Corps programme. It is a three-year fixed term contract for 20 hours per week. There is flexibility to negotiate these hours.

Key tasks

  • Work with clients to assist them to identify goals and steps to attaining these;
  • Use the Model of Care framework, Te Whare Tapa Wha, Strengths Based Engagement and Motivational Interviewing to inform all client’s’ interactions;
  • Provide advocacy where necessary;
  • Assist other staff to ensure best practice in all client interactions;
  • Facilitate delivery of programmes in line with client needs;
  • Assist in providing seamless links between community ministries and corps;
  • Provide key links to other positive communities for people to be involved with.

Person Specification

We are seeking someone who:

  • Is preferably a qualified and experienced NZ Registered Social Worker;
  • Has a full NZ Drivers’ License;
  • Has the ability to relate positively and communicate effectively with a wide range of people;
  • Has excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Has an excellent standard of computer literacy skills;
  • Has the ability to be self-motivated and work both independently and as part of the team;
  • Is proficient in needs assessment and case management skills;
  • Has the ability to work well within a team environment;
  • Can work from a bicultural perspective;
  • Has the ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures;
  • Has empathy with the values and mission of The Salvation Army.
