About the War Cry magazine:

War Cry is a visual, contemporary, 24-page fortnightly magazine for Salvation Army readers that is also intended to be easily accessible to the wider community–Christian and non-Christian. Articles are written to demonstrate how Christ enriches people’s lives, to explore society from a Christian perspective, and to provide resources for Christian growth. War Cry also promotes Salvation Army programmes and activities.

About the role

This is a role for a confident, self-directed and highly-motivated person who is committed to clear and compelling communication in a variety of journalistic forms: print, online and multimedia.

  • Write for War Cry magazine
  • Photography to illustrate stories
  • MOJO for online audience
  • Proofreading War Cry and other documents as required
  • Writing for other publications as required

This permanent position is for 37.5 hours per week.

Person Specification

We are looking for someone with:

  • A real interest in interviewing people and helping them tell their stories
  • Someone with solid reporting skills whose writing connects with a wide audience
  • The ability to communicate the meaning and messages of Christianity in clear prose is a requirement of this role
  • The ability to source and follow through story leads
  • Excellent grammar, spelling, proofreading and writing abilities is essential, as is an eye for detail evidenced in accuracy and style consistency.
  • An understanding of the visual requirements of magazine publishing is important
  • Creativity is essential
  • An ability to work well with others in a team environment is crucial.
  • The deadlines associated with this role mean we are looking for someone with excellent time management skills
  • Photography skills would be an advantage
  • MOJO skills would be an advantage
