The Salvation Army Nelson Tasman Bays Corps is missing a key player in our Community Ministries (CM) team.  We need a new Team Leader to bring us up to full strength and guide as we deliver on our missional statement of caring for people, transforming lives and reforming society in and through the name of Jesus in the Nelson Tasman Bays region.

About the role

The purpose of the position is to provide capacity to deliver social service assistance via the Community Ministry wing of the Corps programme. The Team Leader will oversee the CM team to ensure that a holistic grace-filled expression of ministry and mission is occurring in every facet of individual and community engagement.

Areas of key focus include:

  • Social Service Assessment and Referral – receiving, assessing and, using our model of care, providing assistance that leads to positive outcomes;
  • Foodbank – receiving, stocking, and dispersing of foodbank items;
  • Transitional Housing – providing support for clients that are in our Transitional housing programme;
  • Employment Navigation Service – supporting unemployed to employment and work readiness;
  • Strengthening connections between the various ministries within the Corps;
  • Office management, including work flow of staff and volunteers.

This is a permanent position, 30 hours per week.

Person Specification

  • A strong understanding of social justice;
  • Must have an empathetic attitude to the poor and needy;
  • An ability to build rapport with people from diverse backgrounds and complex needs is essential;
  • Good computer skills and competence with databases;
  • Organisational awareness and confidence in multi-agency communication and collaboration.
