Based in Cuba Street, Wellington (with hybrid working options)

Hours: Full – time permanent position

About the Role:

We are seeking a confident, organised, and proactive individual who is passionate about supporting youth and is ready to develop and strengthen Salvation Army youth ministry and its leaders across NZ, Fiji, Tonga and Samoa. The Youth Mission Coordinator will work closely with the Territorial Youth Secretary. This is an exciting and busy role, where no two days are the same.

We have a fun work atmosphere and are part of a wider international social justice movement caring for people. You will be joining a dedicated and talented group of people who work collaboratively on a wide range of projects and initiatives.

The Youth Mission Coordinator will oversee strategic projects, coordinate training for youth leaders, and territorial youth events. This is an exciting opportunity for you to use your creativity and innovation, and to see your ideas come to life, such as having significant input into the planning of events, including Amplify NZ and youth activities at Congress.

Part of this role involves helping to coordinate our annual Territorial Youth and Children’s Ministries Conference (such as the oversight and organisation of speakers, presenters, logistics, programme, registration, and promotion).

This role has loads of variety and interesting work and will require you to have a high capacity as you juggle and manage multiple deadlines. You will utilise your networking skills to pull together people and resources to help you achieve your goals.

We are looking for someone with excellent relationship building and networking skills.

You will work with internal and external parties, such as the Ministry of Youth Development (on funding opportunities), Ara Taiohi (the peak body for Youth Development in Aotearoa), the Social Policy and Parliamentary Unit (on research into youth related government proposals and bills) and the inter-denominational youth leaders’ network.

You will work with youth leaders within the Territory, providing them with support, assisting them with solutions and identifying appropriate training and development for them.

This role has active involvement in the management and outworking of our Youth Work Training Programmes (LAB Apprenticeship and Foundations of Youth Work). This will involve you working closely with the Director of Youth Missions Training to deliver on these programmes.

The successful candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • Loads of drive and initiative
  • Highly organised and the ability to work independently
  • Experience in planning and running events
  • Ability to juggle and meet multiple deadlines
  • ideally, experience in managing a budget
  • You will have worked through your life experiences and be comfortable with yourself
  • You will have maturity and good boundaries, and the ability to assess and make sound decisions.
