About the role

We are looking for someone who is passionate about working with youth – a creative, out-of-the-box thinker with a desire to see our young people thrive in all areas of their lives.
You will have the ability to build strong relationships with youth; mentoring and supporting them so that they grow as radical followers of Jesus. Planning and running a weekly youth group that includes discipleship and social events, identifying and equipping volunteer leaders and building a network of other youth workers in Napier is also part of this role.
On a daily basis the role could encompass, but is not limited to, the following key tasks:
- Provide leadership, vision and direction for the Corps (Church) Youth Ministries, ensuring they are holistic and balanced with an equal inward and outward focus.
- Plan and run a weekly youth group with a volunteer team
- Be informed of key youth issues within our community and work to empower youth to overcome these
- Be a Facilitator for the Aspire Kiwi Youth Development Programme
- Network and collaborate with other local agencies and groups working with youth in our community
- Identify, equip and supervise a team of volunteer leaders to be effective Youth Ministries Leaders and Workers
- Provide ongoing discipleship & pastoral care for youth
This is a full time, fixed term position of 37.5 hours per week to 31 December 2020.
This role reports to the Corps Officers.
Ideal Person Specification
- Is a committed Christian, evident by exhibiting ongoing personal growth and investigating becoming an active Soldier of The Salvation Army, while holding to Soldiership standards;
- Is fully supportive of the Mission of The Salvation Army;
- Passionate about working with youth, with a strong desire to see young people grow in their relationship with Jesus;
- Innovative and creative, with the ability to “think outside the box”;
- Has completed or is will to complete relevant Keeping Children Safe training;
- Has completed or is willing to complete TSA recognised youth work training;
- Is a self-motivator and displays good initiative;
- Ability to maintain good working relationships;
- Ability to learn and take instruction;
- Ability to relate to people from a diverse range of backgrounds;
- Reliable, honest and trustworthy;
- Holds a current, clean drivers licence.
- Will work towards accreditation with The Salvation Army Keeping Children Safe Policy
