Youth Worker (Fixed Term Maternity Leave Cover)

We are looking for a passionate and enthusiastic Youth Worker to join our team, as our current Youth Worker takes 12 months maternity leave.  This role will be overseeing and attending the existing Youth programmes, as well as providing support and mentoring to volunteer youth leaders and young people. In addition, the successful applicant will also be in our local high school as a youth worker- this can include mentoring, running groups or events, working with student leaders and more.

The Youth Worker will be required to;

  • Oversee the running of and attend a weekly Youth programme on Sunday nights
  • Oversee the organising of and attend other youth events and youth camps
  • Individually mentor youth leaders and young people
  • Work in our Local High School as a part of the 24-7 Youth Work team there (made up of different local churches).
  • Attend our Sunday services and other Corps Family events

The successful applicant should:

  • Be a Soldier of the Salvation Army who is committed to a life of faith and mission and have a heart for community
  • Have the ability to lead a team
  • Have group facilitation and youth work experience
  • Have a passion to see youth achieve their full potential.

 Preference is given toward someone who has qualifications in Youth Work or equivalent.

This position is for 22 hours per week.  1 year Fixed Term Contract. This role will commence on April 1 2019.

Applicants must already have a NZ Residency or a valid NZ Work Permit as well as a full driver’s license and will be required to have their criminal conviction history checked for this position.
