This is the fifth year The Salvation Army and Colgate-Palmolive have partnered on an appeal which invites Countdown customers to purchase any two Colgate, Palmolive, Ajax or Cuddly products in a single transaction. For every two products purchased by Countdown customers, Colgate-Palmolive will donate one to The Salvation Army for including in their food parcels. This year the successful appeal will run over a two week period at the begining of May in all Countdown stores nationwide.
Jono Bell, Head of The Salvation Army’s social services, says the donations will help people stay healthy in the challenging times we are in and are facing. “It’s also about dignity and respect. When you’re struggling to feed yourself and keep your family safely housed, clothed and warm, personal hygiene and cleaning products can become luxuries. The generous support provided by Colgate-Palmolive over the past five years at a critical time of year has helped provide families with the items they may not be able to afford otherwise.”
Colgate-Palmolive New Zealand General Manager John Garside said the company was pleased to be able to help New Zealanders who were finding things tough. “We are proud to partner and work with The Salvation Army to provide essential household items to their food banks to assist those in need.”
The company has also donated $40,000 over the past four years to The Salvation Army's transitional housing programmes in Lower Hutt, Porirua, Hamilton and Auckland, this year the funds will be directed to Waitakere, Auckland to The Salvation Army's new transitional housing for Positive Lifestyle Programme and Youth Work. Being able to help vulnerable families is a privilege, Mr Garside says. “The Salvation Army’s transitional housing programme assists many in the community. It is great to see how our support is helping make a positive difference to Kiwis at a time of desperate need.”
The Colgate-Palmolive & The Salvation Army Foodbank Appeal will take place in all Countdown stores between 03/05/2021 to 16/05/2021.
