Making Life Work programme

This service will help you make the right connections for lasting positive change, through the following:

  • A service based on your employment needs.
  • Group and one-on-one support for a smooth transition into the community.
  • Access to community services and support to gain employment.
  • The opportunity to upskill with NZQA qualifications.
  • Healthy social connections through regular community meals.
  • Friendly drop-in centre for extra support and information.

This programme is a new initiative created by the Ministry of Social Development and Corrections.

It is hailed as the 'platinum' service for prisoners due to be released into the community. Introductions to the reintegration team and the employment team starts up to 10 weeks prior to release and continues for up to 18 months post-release.

During this time a complete wraparound services is provided including:

  • accommodation
  • family/whanau support
  • social reintroductions
  • training and upskilling (NZQA)
  • drivers licence
  • CV and interview preparation
  • work experience
  • employment placement and ongoing support
