EDITORIAL

I cannot recall much of my first year of Sociology at the University of Canterbury. However, I do recall the need for strong coffee to sustain me through the 5 pm lectures. And I do recall being introduced to the quote
(and concept) of ‘Lies, damned lies, and statistics.’ Both coffee and that quote have had an ongoing influence: the former facilitating much social enjoyment; the latter birthing a healthy disrespect for people’s use (and abuse)
of statistics.
