First non-executive Member Appointed to Governance Board

The Salvation Army in New Zealand has reached another milestone in its pursuit of greater accountability and governance

Sue Sheldon

Sue Sheldon was welcomed as the first non-executive member of The Salvation Army New Zealand, Fiji, Tonga and Samoa’s Territorial Governance Board (TGB) in New Zealand, on Thursday 14 March 2019.

Territorial Commander, Commissioner Andy Westrupp said Ms Sheldon’s appointment was the ‘next step in meeting our international requirements for greater accountability in governance, child and vulnerable people protection, leadership training and stewardship’.

Her appointment to the board comes after a nomination and selection process conducted by the Governance Board with the help of Propero, a Director search and selection company based in Auckland.  ‘Sue brings a wealth of experience along with a high degree of goodwill toward the Army and our Mission’, said Andy.

She has an impressive record of directorships with successful business, from the state sector through to the commercial sector, from small to large, and is particularly excited by entities undergoing change and growth.

She is the current chair of Regenerate Christchurch and FibreTech New Zealand Ltd, as well as the Independent Chair of Auckland Council Audit & Risk Committee.

Sue received the Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for Services to Business in 2007 and is an FCA Chartered Accountant, Fellow of NZ Institute of Chartered Accountants, and is a Life Member Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand. She is also a Chartered Fellow, Institute of Directors in New Zealand Inc.
