The Salvation Army Celebrates Together in Hamilton

Kirikiriroa Hamilton, NZ – On Saturday 27 September from 3.30pm, The Salvation Army will open the doors of its Together Congress 2025 at the Claudelands Event Centre, bringing with it a vibrant, community-focused celebration. As part of festivities, they will transform the lawn of the Claudelands precinct into a lively hub of activity.
Locals can expect food trucks, popup markets, sports, activities and live musical performances. “This isn’t just a church event, it’s a festival for the whole community,” says Commissioner Janine Donaldson, Territorial Commander of The Salvation Army. “We’re inviting Hamiltonians to come down, grab a bite, browse local stalls and experience the warmth and diversity of our people.”
The festival runs alongside The Salvation Army’s national Congress, which gathers hundreds of Salvationists from across New Zealand, Fiji, Tonga, and Samoa for a weekend of worship, connection and community-focused training.
As part of The Salvation Army’s commitment to serve and uplift the community, ‘Love Kirikiriroa’ will see Congress attendees spread out across Hamilton from 1.30pm on Saturday, engaging in a wide range of practical and creative service projects. From tree planting at Miropiko Reserve, free car washes and rubbish clean-ups, to crafting prayer cards, making toys for the SPCA and even turning chip packets into survival blankets, these activities are all about giving back.
“Whether it’s prayer walking, sorting donations at Family Stores, or brightening footpaths with chalk art, ‘Love Kirikiriroa’ is a hands-on expression of faith in action,” says Janine.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, The Salvation Army’s brass bands will be performing at popular local spots, including Kmart and Woolworths, bringing joyful music to shoppers and passersby. The SpiritSong choir will also be sharing their uplifting harmonies, including a special visit to a local retirement home, offering a moment of connection and encouragement to residents.
We are also privileged to welcome General Lyndon Buckingham and Commissioner Bronwyn Buckingham, the international leaders of The Salvation Army, who will be attending and speaking during the weekend’s events.
