Woolworths Winter Appeal Returns to Support Families Through Winter

The Salvation Army is delighted to once again partner with Woolworths for the annual Woolworths Winter Appeal, running from 13 July to 26 July across stores throughout Aotearoa New Zealand.

The appeal gives customers a simple way to support local families experiencing hardship during the coldest months of the year. Shoppers can choose to round up their purchase at the checkout, with every transaction over $20 offering the opportunity to contribute. You can also donate or buy selected grocery items and place them in specially marked Salvation Army collection trolleys in-store.

Kate Eastoe, GM Sustainability & Public Affairs for Woolworths New Zealand, says the long-standing partnership continues to make a significant impact in communities across the country.

“We know that it’s tough for many of our customers, and that’s what is so inspiring about the support our customers give each Winter and Christmas for The Salvation Army. They are our national Community partner because of the breadth and depth of service they offer across Aotearoa and this winter we again ask – if you can – please add a few cents at the checkout to help the Sallies help others,” says Kate.

As living costs continue to put pressure on household budgets, demand for Salvation Army services remains high. Funds and donated goods collected through the appeal will help provide essential food support, as well as wraparound services that assist individuals and families facing complex challenges.

John Mawdsley, Corporate Partnerships Team Lead at The Salvation Army, says the organisation is honoured to be the Community partner of Woolworths.

“The Salvation Army is proud of the long-standing partnership with Woolworths, which is our largest corporate partner. Together, we continue to support individuals and families facing hardship in communities across Aotearoa New Zealand.”

Specific items in greatest demand include tinned spaghetti, baked beans, rice, toilet tissue, soup, milk powder, UHT milk, wheat biscuits, canned tuna, muesli bars and instant coffee.

“Every donation, no matter how big or small, helps ensure families and individuals are supported with love, care and hope. We deeply appreciate this initiative and the generosity of New Zealanders who continue to get behind the appeal,” says John.

“We know that practical support can be life changing. Food can ease immediate pressure, while longer-term support can help people regain stability and confidence for the future. We aim to provide both with the help of generous Kiwis.”
