Church Life

a cross and love heart

Not everyone realises that The Salvation Army is a ‘church’. One reason is that we work alongside anyone who needs our help and support, without judgement or requiring people to adhere to a Christian worldview.

But at the same time, The Salvation Army is motivated and driven by our Christian faith. We want others to experience the peace and purpose that comes from getting to know Jesus.

In keeping with our military terminology, we call our churches ‘corps’. These are places of warmth and welcome where we focus on helping people meet Jesus, achieve God’s purposes in the world, and belong to a caring community that serves the needs of its local neighbourhood. You don’t have to be a Christian to attend a Salvation Army church – everyone is welcome!

Our church services are relaxed, joyful and informal, with music, creativity, prayer and the Bible key components. We offer vibrant week-day activities and occasional courses, as well as opportunities to study the Bible in friendly small-group settings. In most places we run fun activities for children, youth and adults. And in New Zealand, we are building our bicultural emphasis.

Visit our exciting online spaces to connect with what’s happening for women, for children and families, for youth, for Māori, and for those with a passion for creative ministries.
