Scale new heights, thunder through rapids or simply stand in awe of Tongariro’s majestic beauty—but the real adventure for everyone who visits The Salvation Army Blue Mountain Adventure Centre (BMAC) is discovering what they can achieve.

We cater for all ages, with a wide range of ready-made adventure packages (for groups of 10 or more). Or we can work with you to design a programme that meets your needs. We work with a wide range of clients: schools, churches and other organisations. Our safety record is excellent, with fully qualified instructors who are excellent leaders and role models.

Unique location

We’re located on Pito Street in Raurimu, five minutes north of the National Park township on State Highway 4. We are 30 minutes south of Taumaranui, and just 25 minutes from Whakapapa ski field. The spectacular outdoor environment of Tongariro National Park is right on our doorstep.

With our spacious new lodge we can now accommodate up to 50 people onsite at BMAC. Our lodges are set on 3 acres of grounds with fully-facilitated kitchens, large dining and lounge areas, and plenty of room to sleep! We even have indoor rock climbing and a high ropes course. When it comes to food, we offer self-catered or semi-catered options.

Our programmes

With many years of combined experience in outdoor leadership and instruction, our staff know the surest way to a fantastic adventure! Their qualifications and abilities brought them to BMAC, but it's their genuine heart for the work and the results they see every day that keep them here. And the fact that they're a great bunch of characters is yet another reason people keep coming back year after year.

Some of our activities include:

  • White water rafting
  • Mountaineering
  • Kayaking
  • Canoeing - Wanganui River and Lake Taupo
  • Rockclimbing and abseiling
  • Caving
  • Bushwalking
