While Kiwi around most of the country are now heading out to enjoy their favourite meals, many families are still struggling with food insecurity.
Throughout the COVID-19 outbreak, the New Zealand Government urged everyone to look after one another and at Domino’s, we want to continue to do our bit. That’s why we are working with The Salvation Army to offer a Slice of Kindness to 2,000 Kiwi families in need, by giving them the gift of a hot meal, safely delivered.
“We’ve all been seeing images on television of empty supermarket shelves, and hearing about the increased demand on foodbanks and people who are struggling to even leave their homes to get food for their families at the moment,” said Domino’s New Zealand General Manager Cameron Toomey.
“While we’re excited to be welcoming many of our customers back to some of our stores this week, we are aware that there are still families out there that are doing it tough.
“Many of these families are not only struggling to put food on the table but are also trapped in their homes for a variety of reasons. As the delivery experts, Domino’s is best placed to not only provide them with a free meal, but to deliver this safely to their door using Zero Contact Delivery.”
Domino’s has chosen to once again partner with The Salvation Army due to their expertise in helping the most vulnerable and their extensive foodbank network across the country.
Domino’s will be supplying The Salvation Army with printed vouchers that they will be able to distribute over the next few weeks. With this new initiative Domino’s will have supported The Salvation Army with nearly $120,000 worth of donations over the past 12 months.
“Last year, when our local store owners in Auckland raised money to feed those in need, we wanted to make sure that our donation went where it was needed most, which is why we decided to partner with The Salvation Army. The Salvation Army operate a significant number of foodbanks across New Zealand, so it made sense to partner with them again,” Mr Toomey said.
“There are thousands of families across New Zealand who are particularly vulnerable right now, and we’re very grateful for the generosity of the Domino’s team as they help provide some security for those who are struggling,” The Salvation Army Northern Divisional Leader, Major Ian Gainsford said.
“Our teams are working hard to offer assistance across the country, and it’s only possible with help from companies like Domino’s, alongside the many New Zealanders working together to look out for one another.”
Domino’s is passionate about giving back to the local communities in which we operate and is always looking for a way to put a smile on people’s faces – especially during these challenging and uncertain times. This new initiative is part of an ongoing program launched last year called ‘Feed the Knead’.

“Feed the Knead has already fed thousands of Kiwis across the country and we look forward to feeding thousands more,” Mr Toomey said.
As much of the country moves into Alert Level 3, Domino’s stores are opening their doors once again. With the safety of customers, the community and team members the Company’s top priority.
“We appreciate that serving the community right now is a privilege and it’s one we accept with a great deal of trust and respect. We continue to look for ways to deliver hot meals to people in the community who need them the most,” Mr Toomey said.
