The United Nations has set 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as 'an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership. They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.'

We believe that prayer is the biggest action a Christian can begin with. Will you join us in an urgent call for prayer, as we intercede for women and girls through each of the Sustainable Development Goals?

Ensure access to water and sanitation for all

  • In collecting drinking water, women and girls carry the heaviest burden. Women and girls are responsible for water collection in 80% of households without access to water on premises, according to data from 61 developing countries.

'God of our understanding, we pause and give thanks to you today for those things we might sometimes take for granted – for the life-giving gift of clean water that sustains us daily.

Ko te wai te ora ngā mea katoa – Water is the life giver of all things… and yet, God we know there are so many who don’t have access to clean water and sanitation. We pray for them now, Lord, for our brothers and sisters around the world who suffer without this essential resource. We are humbled, Father, having known the taste of clean water to drink, having known the freedom of space to wash ourselves, our clothing, our homes, even our cars and our pets…God, we are humbled that there are those amongst us who live without these luxuries which we know as necessities. We ask for your continued provision, for clean water and sanitation for all your children around the world. And we ask, Lord, that you open our eyes to our part in ensuring that all those who are in need in this way, can begin to live with the same access that we have known. Guide us to use our resources to offer hope to those in need. Show us our part in the story, Father, and use us to do Your will, as rivers of living water flow from within us.

Lord, hear our prayer. May all those who are in need receive the help that they need. And may Your precious Name be glorified.

Amen.'
